Yesterday we shared that Google is rolling out a new update to Circle to Search for Android users when you circle something on your screen a bewitching piece of art, a trending image, or a unique object, you’ll get richer AI-powered insights. Other than this new feature the company has released interesting Gemini updates for Pixel 9 series and Gemini Advanced subscribers as well.

Pixel 9 series: AI assistant gets versatile

Gemini Live can now talk you through the images, files, and videos you see on Pixel and serves as your personal AI assistant.

• Images: Add an image to your conversation and Gemini Live can provide detailed information and suggestions, or help solve problems in real-time.
• Files: Share documents with Gemini Live, then have a discussion about them.
• Videos: Have a conversation about a YouTube video, including insights, explanations, and reasoning.

This update will be available on Pixel 9 series devices and come to Pixel 6 and later phones soon. It is also revealed that in the coming months, the Gemini app on Pixel will be among the first to get Project Astra capabilities like screen sharing and live video streaming.

Also with extensions, Gemini can help complete tasks across apps like YouTube, Google Maps, mail, and Spotify. And now users can ask Gemini to use multiple extensions in a single prompt.

Gemini Deep Research on Pixel

This new feature available for Gemini Advanced subscribers transforms your Pixel into a powerful research assistant. It helps you browse through hundreds of websites to generate a report with key findings, organized with links to original sources so you can learn even more.

Gemini Deep Research will start becoming available to Gemini Advanced subscribers on Pixel phones in the next few days. Pixel 9 Pro owners can enjoy Deep Research with the 12-month subscription to Gemini Advanced included with their purchase.

Earlier if a user needs to use AI features inside mail, Docs, Sheets, Meet, and the rest of the Workspace suite, they need to pay an extra $20 per user per month for the Gemini Business Plan. Yesterday Google officially announced via a blog post that AI features will now be available to all the Workspace customers at no extra charge.

AI capabilities that will be rolled out to Google Workspace Business customers today and to Enterprise customers later this month include-

• AI assistance in the mail, Docs, Sheets, Meet, Chat, Vids, and more
• Chat with Gemini Advanced
• Unlock the power of NotebookLM Plus

But there is a catch, Google will not be charging for these AI features but has slightly increased the prices of its Workspace plans. For example, earlier the Standard Business plan was priced at $12 while for the Gemini Business add-on, they needed to pay $20, an amount totaling $32 per user per month. Now users will have to pay $14 ($2 extra) for the Workspace Business standard plan including AI features.

• Business Plus- $26.40 USD per user

The new pricing takes effect from tomorrow for new customers, monthly subscription pricing will be updated starting 17^th March 2025 or at renewal date with an Annual/Fixed term plan whichever is later. Very small business customers are not subject to pricing changes at this time.

• Business standard- Rs 864 INR per user/month
• Business Plus- Rs 1700 INR per user/month

Google’s Gemini, the brand’s largest and most capable AI model, has been receiving a lot of upgrades and feature additions in attempts to make it even better and more user-friendly and followed by the introduction of Gemini 2.0 Flash, we had also saw the brand unveiling Chess Champ on Gemini Advanced as well as making Spotify extension available for the Gemini app on Android devices.

A new design change has been brought to the Gemini app, revamping its whole user interface with a much more appealing look. Read more about it below.

Gemini App New Design Now Available to Users

This new updated design language might have reached many users on their smartphone devices already and when compared to the previous one, there are quite a few changes in it. Notably, from the small centrally-aligned pill-shaped module which consisted of the ‘keyboard’, ‘mic’, and ‘camera’ icons for different functions, along with the circular ‘Gemini AI Assistant’ button, the new design brings a rectangular-shaped unit (with rounded corners) on to the platform with an attachment icon that can help in uploading images directly via the Gallery app or by capturing it and uploading through the Camera app. ‘Ask Gemini’ has also been brought inside the rectangular unit, where users can type in what they want to ask. Towards the right, the ‘mic’ and ‘Gemini AI Assistant’ icons have also been added. Furthermore, a greeting ‘Hello, (user’s name)’ has also been added to the app interface.

As mentioned, many users have reportedly already found the new design change on the Gemini app, while a few are still yet to receive it. Most probably, it will be rolled out to more and will reach everyone soon. Stay tuned.

Gemini Advanced users can now upload documents, spreadsheets, and PDFs directly to their Gems. This feature will allow Gems to assist with content creation, research, and various business tasks as well. You can now upload up to 10 files when creating a Gem including referencing Google Drive, giving them additional context to provide more tailored and helpful responses.

Also when you refer to files from Drive, Gems uses the most recent version of that file so it’s always up to date. Referencing your files in Gems will unlock a new level of customization, such as answering questions based on your files, assisting in content creation, or addressing business needs.

Though to use this file upload feature, a subscription is required and also requires a browser for setup. Also, the feature is available in selected languages only. This feature is available via Google One and Google Workspace.

Ems is said to be the used Gemini Advanced feature as users have turned it into translators, prompt engineers, math tutors, and copywriters. Now this new addition of uploading files will help users further enhance their experience.

Google has always prioritized the needs of its customers and tried to inculcate new ways and technologies in order to enhance the user experience. This year the company introduced its AI-powered assistant Gemini which was said to help users in their day-to-day tasks and their professional lives as well. But a recent complaint made by a Reddit user against Gemini has left the users online in shock.

A Reddit user yesterday shared that Gemini told his brother to die. This threatening response that was completely irrelevant to the prompt has left the user in shock. He also added the link to the full conversation.

On opening the link, it was seen that the user was asking questions about older adults, emotional abuse, elder abuse, self-esteem, and physical abuse, and Gemini was giving the answers based on the prompts. It is on the last prompt when Gemini seems to have given a completely irrelevant and rather threatening response when it tells the user to die.

On this Reddit post, users gave a mixed reaction, some wrote that this response can be alarming for users especially if they are kids, and some mentioned that the AI assistant might have gotten confused due to words mentioned like elderly abuse and emotional abuse while there were many who joked about Gemini getting tired of helping kids in their homework and giving this kind of reply.

[Update] Recently, at the 10th Google for India event, it was announced that Gemini Live will be coming in Hindi and eight other Indian languages, and now, via the Google Gemini Live Twitter handle, it has been announced that it will be coming in 40+ languages. In the next few weeks, this will be rolled out, starting with languages like French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, and Hindi. It has further been added that users will be able to add up to two languages in Gemini Live, which will be expanded later.

Google’s AI chatbot has a new upgrade that makes it faster and more intelligent than ever. Google has announced that it has updated the Gemini to Gemini 1.5 Flash model. Google says that the users will notice the quality improvement and latency with special improvement in reasoning and image understanding.

The Gemini context window has also gone up by 4x with the integration of the Gemini 1.5 Flash model.

Users will soon be able to upload files via Google Drive or directly from their device on Gemini which will help them analyze the data files and practice questions.

Along with this upgrade Google has also worked on to reduce hallucinations by providing additional information on topics directly within Gemini’s responses. You will see a chip at the end of a paragraph to see websites where you can dive deeper into a certain topic. Starting today Google will roll out the Gemini in Google Messages to the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, and Switzerland, with the ability to chat in newly added languages like French, Polish, and Spanish. As per the report, a star icon would appear beside the archive icon thus allowing you to summarize the mail and add a query in the box. The report mentions that they could do this for multiple tasks like asking for reply suggestions, changing the tone of a drafted response, and other non-email tasks. These features will soon be available on the Gmail app thus allowing users to be more productive than ever before.

AI Overview is a new feature in Google Search that will be reaching all in the US this week and will be rolled out to more countries’ users in the coming days. Google has been testing for a while outside of the lab and has seen an increase in usage and satisfaction from users. Google Gemini not only makes searching for information easy and more intuitive but it also empowers Google products in many ways such as Google Photos. 

Google Ask Photos with Gemini

Android users all across the globe have been using Google Photos to save their life memories in Google Photos. This not only keeps your photos safe but also reduces the load on your handset. Now with the Gemini searching for a photo in Google Photo has become easier than ever before. At the event, its usage was demonstrated in which it was asked about the photo of the license plate in Google Photos. Now Gemini backed search of Google Photo intelligently goes through a number of images in the photos and brings out the number plate of the vehicle that has appeared multiple times and results come out with the image of the license plate. Interesting isn’t it?

Apart from this, you can also dive deeper into the memories by asking questions like “When did Lucia learn to swim?”. It will go through a series of images in which Lucia can be seen swimming or anything related to that like a won certificate and then will bring out these photos for you at a place. You can also ask some follow-up questions in that. Google will roll out this exciting feature this summer with some more capabilities. 

Gemini 1.5 Pro 

Google announced the improved version of Gemini 1.5 Pro to all developers globally. Gemini 1.5 Pro with 1 million context is now directly available for consumers in Gemini Advanced. This can be used across 35 languages. For developers in private preview, Google has expanded the context window to 2 million tokens. Gemini will also redefine the way we use Google Workspace Gmail will let you summarize all emails, summarize it, and even write emails on the basis of it. The Notebook LM after the integration of the Gemini 1.5 Pro will allow users to summarize, and generate study guides, FAQs, quizzes, and also Audio Overviews. It will also provide advanced features to the Google Calendar and Google spreadsheet.

Gemini 1.5 Flash is a lighter-weight model

This model is designed for tasks where low latency and efficiency are very important. It is for high-frequency and narrow tasks and has the fastest response time. The Gemini 1.5 Pro and Gemini Flash are currently available globally in over 200 countries. 

Project Astra 

Google describes it as the universal AI agent that is based on the Gemini model that can respond to the complex and dynamic world and respond accordingly. This agent can process information faster by continuously encoding video frames and combining the audio and video into a timeline in caching for the recall. Google also presented a prototype of this agent showing the recall capability, identifying the objects, and solving the problem in real time. 

Imagen 3/Music AI Sandbox/Veo  

Google has also introduced its most capable image generation image model Imagen 3. This will be soon available to the developers and enterprise customers in Vertex. The Music AI Sandbox is a suite of professional music AI tools. Google has also announced the competitor of the Sora the Veo. It can create high-quality 1080p video from text, image, and video prompts. It builds upon the company’s pioneering generative video model work GQN, Phenaki, Walt, VideoPoet, Lumiere, and much more.
